There. I said it.
Sometimes our approach to spiritual warfare gives far too much attention to demons, and far too little attention to how the believer actually lives.
Jesus has already given us authority over the power of the enemy. So, yes, exercise your authority when spiritual opposition requires it.
But also exercise control over yourself.
Can you:
● Govern your tongue when provoked?
●Control your thoughts when fear comes knocking?
●Forgive when you have been wounded?
●Refuse bitterness?
●Walk away from unnecessary conflict?
●Repent when you are wrong?
●Remain disciplined when nobody is watching?
●Stand in faith without becoming frantic?
●Maintain integrity when compromise would be easier?
That is spiritual warfare too.
I teach spiritual warfare as two very practical responsibilities:
1). Exercise your Christ-given authority over the forces of darkness.
2). Exercise Spirit-governed control over yourself while living as the righteous in this fallen world.
I call the latter Living the Higher Life.
The objective is not to become so demon-conscious that every inconvenience requires investigation into which spirit caused it.
Demons are not the center of our faith, Jesus Christ is.
As Scripture says,
a). We have been delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of God’s dear Son. (See Colossians 1:13 KJV)
And Christ said:
b). “Behold, I give unto you power…over all the power of the enemy…” Luke 10:19 KJV
So live from that position.
■Know your authority.
■ Govern yourself by the Word.
■ Walk in righteousness.
■ Develop spiritual maturity.
■ And stop giving defeated spirits starring roles in a life that belongs to Jesus Christ.
