REMEMBER YOUR “BEFORE”

Today’s #Snippet

Scripture Anchor:

“For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived…”  Titus 3:3 KJV

Apostolic Insight:

Grace becomes difficult to withhold when we remember how much of it, we received. Paul includes himself. “For we ourselves also…” That sentence dismantles spiritual superiority.

Before describing how other people need to change, Scripture reminds believers  that we were  foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, when grace found us. “But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared…”

We were not saved because we finally became impressive enough for God. The Grace of God intervened. That memory should affect how we treat people who have not yet come where grace brought us.

Sometimes years in church make people forget their “before.” We become shocked that sinners sin, impatient that people do not understand truths it took us years to learn, and  are harsh toward struggles from which God patiently delivered us.

Remembering where God found us does not glorify our past, it magnifies His mercy. Before you look down on somebody today, remember: There was a “before” in your testimony too.

Ponder This:

Has familiarity with Christian life made me forget the patience God extended to me?

Declaration:

·    I will remember the mercy of God without returning to the bondage from which He delivered me.

·    Grace has made me grateful, not superior.

#PrayerOfAgreement

Father, thank You for keeping the memory of Your mercy alive within me. Thank You for where You found me and for what Your grace has produced in my life.

Deliver me from spiritual pride, and help patience  grow in me as I interact with those who are still learning, struggling, questioning, or far from You. Let the grace I received shape the grace with which I speak to others. In the matchless name of Jesus Christ, Amein.

Shalom,

Hephzibah Christly
