REMEMBER WHY YOU CHANGED

Scripture Anchor:

“And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.” Deuteronomy 8:2 KJV

Time has a way of softening memories. After enough distance, we can remember the good parts and conveniently forget what the experience cost us: We forget the exhaustion, the confusion, how often we compromised just to keep the peace, the consequences of choices we once defended, how hard we prayed for the strength to change.

Then one day, what we worked so hard to leave behind does not look quite as dangerous anymore.

Distance has romanticized what wisdom has corrected.

That is why remembering matters. Not so you can live in regret, or keep rehearsing old wounds, nor so you can remain suspicious, bitter, or afraid.

But because some memories contain instructions; you did learn something there.

Perhaps you did learn to stop ignoring warning signs, and that saying yes to everybody eventually means saying no to things that mattered.

You could have also learned that your peace could not survive certain patterns, because spiritual neglect always costs more than you envisioned. And, you may simply have learned that you cannot live that way anymore.

Do not despise those lessons

GUARD YOUR PROGRESS

Growth is not only demonstrated by present activity: it could be demonstrated by what you no longer need to experience again.

There’s no need to return to an old season to prove you have overcome it, nor do you need another painful lesson to validate a lesson God already allowed life, Scripture, wisdom, and experience to teach you.

Try to always remember why you changed: then keep going.

REFLECTION: MIDWEEK

Take an inventory today, ask yourself:

1). What lesson cost you much to learn to casually forget it now?

2). Thank God for the wisdom you gained, keep the lesson, release the pain, and guard your progress.

PRAYER

Father, thank You for how far You have brought me, I receive the grace to remember without becoming bound to the past.

I refuse to romanticize with patterns that once hindered my growth. Neither would I forget lessons that increased wisdom in me.

Father, thank you also for establishing my maturity, strengthening the changes in me, and helping me to walk consistently in understanding.

DECLARATION

I  declare that I will not despise the lessons that facilitated my growth.

I will keep walking forward faithfully, act wisely, and guard the progress that has been made in my life. In the matchless name of Jesus Christ. Amein.

PONDER THIS

Have you forgotten the reason you made a change that once mattered deeply to you?
