Scripture Anchor:
“Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not?” Isaiah 55:2 KJV
Apostolic Insight:
Not everything that exhausts us is difficult; some things are simply repeated without examination.
Isaiah asks a penetrating question: Why keep spending resources on what does not satisfy? The immediate context points God’s people toward what truly gives life. But the question also invites examination. Where does our energy go?
Some activities are tiring because they are necessary: Working, caregiving , ministry, and raising children, can be tiring because important responsibilities require strength.
But other drains continue simply because we have never examined them, such as:
Arguments we repeatedly enter.
Commitments we no longer need.
Habits that consume time without giving anything worthwhile in return.
People-pleasing. Constant checking.
Disorganization.
Procrastination that turns small tasks into emergencies.
Trying to maintain appearances.
Spiritual self-care requires more than recovering from depletion; It also asks: What keeps draining me? The answer could be a responsibility we must continue carrying with God’s grace, or something we can change.
Know the difference.
Ponder This:
What repeatedly consumes my strength without producing anything God requires or anything genuinely worthwhile?
Declaration:
I will steward my strength intentionally.
I receive wisdom to distinguish necessary expenditure from preventable depletion.
