Scripture Anchor:
“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” 1 Peter 2:2 KJV
Appetite is affected by what we continually consume. That is true naturally and spiritually.
We can spend hours consuming news, entertainment, commentary, controversy, other people’s opinions, and endless streams of information; then wonder why opening the Bible feels difficult.
Sometimes the issue is not that we have no appetite. We have simply been feeding it elsewhere.
WHAT ARE YOU FEEDING ON?
Everything you consume does not have to be sinful to affect your appetite; some things are simply too much.
Too much noise, outrage, opinions, scrolling, and too much fascination with what everybody else is doing.
And after continually feeding on it, quiet things can begin to feel boring. Prayer feels slow, meditation requires too much concentration, Scripture cannot compete with the speed of the next notification.
That should get our attention.
GUARD YOUR HUNGER
Protecting your spiritual appetite does not mean withdrawing from ordinary life. It means refusing to allow everything else to crowd out your hunger for God and His Word.
Make room for Scripture before your mind becomes saturated with everybody else’s words.
Make room for prayer before the day’s noise takes over.
Make room for silence, for room to think, and to hear yourself before absorbing another hundred opinions.
You cannot control everything that enters your environment. But you can become more intentional about what you continually consume.
MIDWEEK CHECK
Ask yourself:
What have I been consuming so consistently that it is shaping what I hunger for?
If your appetite for Scripture has weakened, do not merely condemn yourself. Adjust what you are feeding, return to the Word, to prayer, and to deliberate fellowship with God.
Appetite can be retrained.
PRAYER
Father, thank You for renewing my hunger for Your Word.
Show me where noise, distraction, entertainment, information, or other people’s opinions have consumed attention that should be more wisely governed.
Help me to be disciplined over what I continually feed my mind.
Let Your Word and prayer remain precious and necessary to me.
Let truth shape my thinking more deeply than the noise around me.
I will guard my spiritual appetite, make room for what strengthens, nourishes, corrects, and matures me.
In the matchless name of Jesus Christ. Amein.
