NAME WHAT HURTS TO GOD

Today’s #Snippet

Scripture Anchor

“Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.” Psalm 6:2 KJV

Apostolic Insight:

David did not always pray polished prayers. Oftentimes he simply told God where it hurt. He spoke about weakness, fear, enemies, tears, loneliness and confusion.

His prayers remind us that biblical faith does not require emotional dishonesty. Sometimes believers become skilled at replacing honest language with religious language.

We say:

“I’m trusting God.” And perhaps we are.

But underneath that statement may also be: I am disappointed, I feel betrayed, I am frightened, I am lonely, I am angry, I don’t understand what God is doing.

Faith can coexist with those admissions: Naming pain does not enthrone it. It simply brings what is actually happening into the light.

You cannot responsibly care for an inner life you refuse to examine:  we need to stop asking “How should I feel?”, and honestly acknowledge:“How do I feel?” Then we bring that truth before God.

We do not allow emotions to become our final authority. But neither do we pretend they do not exist.

God is not intimidated by an honest prayer. David’s God is still our God. Tell Him where it hurts.

Ponder This:

Have I been using spiritual language to avoid acknowledging something that genuinely hurts?

Declaration:

I will walk in truth before God.

I acknowledge what I feel without allowing my feelings to govern what I believe.

I bring every wounded place into the presence of God.

#PrayerOfAgreement:

Father, You know me completely.

Help me stay truthful with You and with myself.

Heal my hurt, change my perspectives,  and restore hope in me.

Replace confusion with wisdom, and where I have hidden pain beneath religious language, teach me to bring it honestly into Your presence.

My feelings will not become my master, but neither will fear keep me from acknowledging them.

Lead me into truth and wholeness.

In the matchless name of Jesus Christ, Amein.

Shalom,
