Apostolic Insight
Tomorrow can consume today’s strength before tomorrow even arrives
Sometimes our bodies are still in Monday while our minds are already living in Thursday, thinking about the appointment, the deadline, the bill, the conversation we need to have, the decision that has not yet been made, the result we are waiting for, the problem that might happen.
And before anything has actually occurred, we have already lived through several possible versions of it in our minds.
Jesus addressed this tendency very practically: “Take therefore no thought for the morrow…”
He was not teaching irresponsibility: Scripture commends planning, wisdom, preparation, and foresight. Jesus was confronting anxious preoccupation with what has not happened yet.
There is a difference between preparing for tomorrow and mentally living there.
Where preparation asks: “What can I responsibly do today?” Anxiety asks: “What if everything goes wrong tomorrow?”
One produces action, while the other often produces exhaustion.
Spiritual self-care includes learning to bring our attention back to the grace God has provided for today.
Today’s responsibilities, decisions, strength, bread, conversation, obedience.
God has not asked us to carry an entire week in one day.
Oftentimes we become overwhelmed not because today’s load is unbearable, but because we have added tomorrow’s imagined burdens to it.
Do what needs to be done, prepare what can reasonably be prepared, and write it down if necessary.
Make that appointment, send the message, complete the task, then release what remains beyond today’s reach.
Tomorrow will have its own responsibilities, and when tomorrow becomes today, God will still be there.
Ponder This
Am I preparing responsibly for the future, or repeatedly spending today’s strength on situations that have not happened?
Declaration
I receive grace for today.
I prepare wisely without surrendering my mind to tomorrow’s uncertainties.
I will not carry imagined burdens before their time.
Prayer of Agreement
Father, thank You for the grace You have provided for this day.
Teach me to prepare without worrying, plan without fearing, and think ahead without becoming consumed by possibilities I cannot control.
Show me what requires my attention today.
Give me discipline to do what is presently within my hands.
I release tomorrow’s unanswered questions, uncertain outcomes, unfinished matters, and unknown circumstances into Your care.
Where my mind continually races ahead, bring it back under the government of truth.
I refuse to spend today’s strength fighting tomorrow’s imaginary battles.
I receive today’s wisdom, strength, provision, grace. And when tomorrow comes, I trust You to meet me there.
In the matchless name of Jesus Christ, Amein.
Shalom,
Hephzibah Christly
