Scripture Anchor:
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God…” Psalm 42:5 KJV
Apostolic Insight:
You listen to yourself more than you listen to almost anyone else.
The psalmist did an interesting thing: He spoke to his own soul when he recognized discouragement he asked “Why art thou cast down?”
When he recognized internal agitation he asked; “Why art thou disquieted within me?”
Then he interrupted the conversation by confidently saying, “Hope thou in God.”
We all have an internal voice that will interpret events, replay conversations, anticipate outcomes, and remind us of mistakes.
However, sometimes it may encourage us, but at other times it can become the relentless critic.

Spiritual self-care includes paying attention to not repeatedly tell ourselves negatives such as:
Nothing ever works.
I always mess things up.
Nobody cares.
I cannot handle this.
Everything is going wrong.
Such negative thinking when repeated often enough begins to feel like facts.
The psalmist did not deny his distress, but he challenged its conclusions with truth.
That is the kind of discipline worth developing.
When your soul speaks, listen carefully, then ask whether what it is saying agrees with God’s Word.
Do not believe every thought because it occurred inside your own head.
Ponder This
What have I been repeatedly telling myself and is it actually true?
Declaration:
My thoughts are governed by truth.
Even when I recognize discouragement, I will not surrender my mind to hopeless conclusions.

Father, thank You for exposing every internal narrative that contradicts Your truth.
Teach me to recognize distorted thinking before it is established in me.
When my soul tries to become disquieted, bring Your Word to my remembrance.
I will constantly truth to myself and place my hope again in You.
In the matchless name of Jesus Christ, Amein.
Shalom,
