DISTRACTION CAN BE EXPENSIVE

Scripture Anchor:
“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15–16 KJV

Not everything that costs you is sinful. Some things are simply distracting. And distraction has a price.

It can cost time, focus, consistency, presence, creativity, prayer, or rest. You can spend an entire day occupied and still fail to attend to what actually mattered.

FROM THE WATCHTOWER

Distraction does not always look like doing nothing.  Distraction looks like doing many things except the thing requiring your attention. For example; answering what could wait, investigating what does not concern you, following conversations that add nothing to your life, constantly checking what has changed since the last time you checked five minutes ago, or remaining available to interruption all day and wondering why nothing meaningful gets completed.

Busy does not always mean productive and occupied does not always mean assigned.

WHAT IS YOUR ATTENTION COSTING YOU?

Attention is one of the resources you carry, and where you repeatedly place it matters.

Ask yourself:

1). What important work keeps being postponed?

2). What person receives only half of my attention because I am continually distracted?

3). What spiritual discipline keeps losing to something less important?

4). What assignment requires sustained focus that I keep giving away in fragments?

The question is not merely:

“Is this wrong?” The wiser question is: “What is this costing me?”

WATCHMAN’S CHARGE

● Pay attention to what repeatedly breaks your focus:

● Not every interruption deserves immediate response.

● Not every notification requires investigation.

●Not every conversation requires participation.

●Not every controversy deserves your attention.

●Guard enough quiet to think.

●Guard enough time to pray.

●Guard enough focus to complete what matters.

●Guard enough presence to actually be where you are.

Distraction becomes expensive when it continually consumes what your assignment requires.

PRAYER

Father, teach me to redeem my time and govern my attention wisely.

Expose distractions I have normalized.

Give me discipline to turn away from what continually consumes attention without producing worthwhile fruit, and help me remain present with the people and responsibilities You have entrusted to me.

I refuse to live perpetually scattered; my attention will not be governed by every interruption, demand, notification, or controversy.

I will give focused attention to what matters. In the matchless name of Jesus Christ. Amein.

PONDER THIS

What has been receiving your attention without deserving the price you are paying for it?
