STOP MEASURING YOUR LIFE

Today’s #Snippet

Scripture Anchor

“For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” 2 Corinthians 10:12 KJV

Apostolic Insight:

Comparison can make a perfectly meaningful life feel inadequate.

Comparison changes the measuring stick. Suddenly what God has given us does not seem enough because somebody else has something different.

Their ministry is larger.

Their family appears closer.

Their career advanced faster, their body looks different, their home is bigger, their opportunities came sooner, their life seems easier.

And now something we were grateful for yesterday feels disappointing today.

Paul calls this practice “not wise.” Because comparison rarely compares truthfully.

We compare our ordinary Tuesday with somebody else’s announcement, our private struggle with their public victory.

Our beginning with their twenty years of experience, our weakness with their strength.

And increasingly, we compare our whole lives with carefully selected glimpses of other people’s lives. That is an exhausting way to live.

Spiritual self-care includes refusing unnecessary measurements. You need to know whether you are walking faithfully with God; whether you are growing, whether you are stewarding what has been placed in your hands, and whether you are obeying your assignment.

Someone else’s portion does not diminish yours; their progress is not evidence that you are behind, and their visibility is not proof of greater significance.

Look at your own field. Tend it well, thank God for what is growing there.

Ponder This:

Has comparison caused me to undervalue something in my life that I once considered a blessing?

Declaration:

■ I will not measure my life by another person’s portion.

■ I receive my responsibilities, opportunities, season, and progress with gratitude and wisdom.

#PrayerOfAgreement

Father, deliver me from comparison.

Where I have allowed another person’s life to make me dissatisfied with mine, restore perspective.

Teach me to celebrate others without diminishing myself.

Let my eyes recognize what You are doing in my own field.

I refuse envy, competition, inferiority, and pride.

I will steward what You have entrusted to me and leave another person’s portion in Your hands.

In the matchless name of Jesus Christ, Amein.

Shalom,
